Mengxi Seeley

Mengxi was born in Wuhan, China and grew up in Cedar Hills, UT. She is a heritage speaker of Chinese. She participated in the Flagship Overseas Capstone Program at Nanjing University in 2013-2014, funded by a Boren Scholarship. After graduating from BYU with a major in international relations and a minor in Chinese, she earned an MA in East Asian Studies at Stanford University.

Mengxi’s current career: "I became interested in studying Chinese formally during undergrad because I wanted to work for the US Department of State, and Chinese is considered a critical language. I worked as a Passport Specialist at the Department of State for almost three years before moving to Virginia to support my spouse who is an assistant professor of Korean history at the University of Virginia. I currently work as a freelance academic translator. In the future I am interested in pursuing PhD studies."
