Early Flagship Application Procedures

The application process for the BYU Early Flagship Program consists of:

Persons interested in applying for acceptance into the BYU Chinese Early Flagship Program who meet the basic qualifications should send the following items to the Flagship office (3067 JFSB) by November 6, 2009.

  1. Unofficial copy of college transcript.
  2. Statement of Intent. (should convincingly address how the BYU Early Flagship Program is especially suited to enhance international career goals and a desire to participate)
  3. One academic letter of recommendation. The letter should specifically address Chinese language proficiency as well as applicant’s suitability to the purposes of the Program.
  4. Application. Please write legibly and make sure all the information is correct. The Chinese Flagship Center is not responsible for any errors.

 

The BYU Chinese Flagship Center:

  • Sponsors a STARTALK Summer Camp Program for high school students.
  • Partners with local high schools to provide distance learning opportunities.
  • Works with BYU Independent study toward a integrated web-based Mandarin Course for high school.

 

College students participate in both a domestic and an overseas component. The program culminates with an academic year long capstone experience, including direct enrollment at Nanjing University and an internship in China.

 

Chinese Flagship students attend their final semester at Nanjing University with a culminating internship in an area of interest to them which allows students to utilize their Chinese language skills in a professional setting.
