The Program has various tracks which help prepare for the overseas capstone experience. The track a student enters depends on their proficiency level when admitted.

Early Track
For beginning language students preparing to enter intermediate coursework

For intermediate language students preparing to enroll in the Advanced Program
Advanced Track
For students enrolled in advanced-level classes preparing to participate in the overseas capstone program
TRACK DETAILS
Students may also enter the Early Track when they reach a 200 Chinese course level. Students take a two-credit weekly course that helps develop proficiency in reading and everyday conversation. They also receive tutoring, academic advising, and other Flagship services. Funding is available for summer Flagship-approved programs that boost students’ language skills.

Students who are not accepted to the Advanced Track are placed in a Pre-Advanced Track and take a 2-credit weekly course that prepares them for the Advanced Pathway. Pre-Advanced Track Requirements
The Advanced Track is designed for students who speak advanced Chinese. It includes one year of training at BYU. The applicants who enter this track go on to the overseas capstone program.
