STARTALK Program Brings First-Time Teachers into Classroom Setting
Tuesday, November 4th, 2008The Asia Society has posted an article about BYU’s Chinese STARTALK Teacher Training program. Here’s an excerpt:
This summer, in cooperation with the Utah State Office of Education’s World Languages Office, the Brigham Young University Chinese Flagship Center hosted 15 Guest Teachers as part of its STARTALK teacher training program. After participating in general teacher training at Stanford University, these Guest Teachers attended a 10-day workshop with other American trainees. In addition, they attended a Chinese AP workshop, observed high school classes, and participated directly in student activities. Through this experience, the Guest Teachers were exposed to American high school students and teachers ahead of going into classroom in the Fall. The organizers hope to continue offering this opportunity to future Guest Teachers.
